What equipment is used for producing coarse sand?

Coarse sand (usually referring to sand aggregate with a particle size of 2.36–4.75 mm) is a basic raw material for construction, road, water conservancy and other projects. Its production relies on professional crushing, sand-making and screening equipment, achieving large-scale and standardized output through scientific process combination.

一、 Core Production Equipment
Jaw Crusher (Primary Crushing Core)
As the first stage of a coarse sand production line, the jaw crusher mainly processes large raw stones (≤1200 mm). Through the reciprocating extrusion between the moving jaw and fixed jaw, it crushes raw materials to 300–500 mm. Featuring high reduction ratio and robust structure, it is suitable for various hard rocks such as granite, basalt and limestone, serving as fundamental equipment for coarse sand production.
Cone Crusher / Impact Crusher (Secondary & Tertiary Crushing)
Crushed materials enter the secondary and tertiary crushing stage.
The cone crusher uses laminated crushing, with high wear resistance and low operating cost, ideal for high-hardness materials, reducing size to below 50 mm.
The impact crusher uses impact from blow bars, producing better-shaped final products, suitable for medium-low hardness materials.
Both are essential secondary/tertiary crushers for coarse sand production.
Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) Crusher (Sand Making & Shaping)
The vertical shaft impact crusher is the core equipment for coarse sand production. Based on “rock-on-rock” or “rock-on-iron” principles, it accelerates materials via a high-speed rotor for collision crushing. It processes finely crushed stones into 0–5 mm finished products, integrating crushing and shaping functions. The produced coarse sand has round particles and reasonable gradation, meeting high engineering standards.
Hydraulic Double-Roller Crusher (Precise Size Control)
Suitable for scenarios requiring precise coarse sand sizing. It extrudes materials through two counter-rotating rollers, with adjustable roller gap to stably produce 1–10 mm coarse sand. It features uniform discharge and low dust, ideal for small production lines or special processes.
Circular Vibrating Screen (Screening & Classification)
After crushing and sand making, the circular vibrating screen performs classification, accurately separating qualified coarse sand of 2.36–4.75 mm while removing oversize particles. It is critical to ensure product size and quality.
二、 Coarse Sand Production Process Flow
Coarse sand production mostly adopts the classic “three-stage crushing + sand making + screening” process:Raw stone is fed into the jaw crusher via a vibrating feeder for primary crushing, then sent to a cone or impact crusher for secondary/tertiary crushing, followed by processing in a VSI crusher. Finally, the material is screened by a circular vibrating screen. Qualified coarse sand is stored directly, while oversize materials return to the sand maker for reprocessing, realizing efficient and continuous production.
